Our Network Member in New Orleans, Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana, has sustained minor external damage and is inaccessible. In a typical week, this food bank regularly served more than 40,000 people ... imagine what the need is now and will be in the coming weeks and months. They'll temporarily operate near Baton Rouge to assist hundreds of thousands of additional hurricane victims.

As Hurricane Katrina evacuees take shelter in nearby states, 22 of our Food Bank Members are providing food directly to people in need. This is support that we cannot provide without your financial help.

Already, thanks to your donations:

• This week we have delivered 1.1 million pounds of food and grocery products for disaster-relief efforts
• An America's Second Harvest Emergency Operations Center has been established in vacant retail space near the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank
• Our logistics team is soliciting donations of transportation
• We're providing a steady flow of supplies to other disaster-relief charities
